National Academy of Engineering has announced a list of 14 engineering challenges in the 21^st century chose by the expert committee individuals, who have contributed to the world through their technological innovations and leadership.

List of 14 greatest engineering challenges of the 21^st century:

• Provide energy from fusion
• Develop carbon sequestration
• Manage the nitrogen cycle
• Provide access to clean water
• Reverse engineer the brain
• Prevent nuclear terror
• Secure cyberspace
• Enhance virtual reality
• Improve urban infrastructure
• Advance health informatics
• Engineer better medicines
• Advance personalised learning
• Explore natural frontiers

Interesting thing to note is that 9 out of 14 in the list are directly related to preserving our environment. The main objective behind creating this list is to emphasize on the fields to invest on research to achieve sustainability and to preserve life in this world. So, you can say that 21^st century is the century for the GREEN revolution.
